 Overview of Committees

Career Services:

To assist the membership in meeting professional growth, employment, and advancement needs.  Major responsibilities of this committee include operation of the online Career Center on SACSA’s website, maintaining on-line Job Listings and Resumes;  assistance with the regional placement conference known as the Southern Placement Exchange; and to staff and operate the Career Services Center at the annual conference.

Conference Program: 

To coordinate and supervise plans for the annual conference; develop a program that will bring pertinent keynote speakers, professional development sessions, and research efforts to those in attendance.  To coordinate the program proposal selection process. To provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among professionals; and to acquaint members with the various benefits resulting from conference attendance. 

Local Arrangements: 

To coordinate with Executive Council, the Program Chair, the host hotel, and others in the planning of the annual conference.

Membership & Recruitment:   

To support the Association through on-going efforts to recruit new members and retain existing memberships within a specified state in the SACSA region.

Multicultural Awareness:  

To identify effective programs and practices that promote a more positive multicultural climate and combat racial/ethnic intolerance.  Plan programs at the annual conference.

New Professional/SACSA’s Newest:  

To provide orientation, mentoring, and networking opportunities for those individuals who are experiencing their first involvement with SACSA.

Nominating: 

To solicit nominations for open positions on Executive Council; to coordinate the election of officers to these positions.

Non-Conference Programming:

To provide professional development outside of the annual conference. This will come from various webinars, roundtable discussions, resources provided on the SACSA website as well as many other programming efforts.

Parliamentarian/By-Laws: 

To advise the President and Executive Council on Roberts’ Rules of Order and to recommend changes to the by-laws based on feedback from officers, committee chairs, and the membership.

Research: 

To encourage research in the college student affairs field; to provide current research and reports to the membership in a timely manner; and coordinate the selection and awarding of the SACSA Research Incentive Grant and the Dissertation of the Year Award.  Present both at the annual conference awards and recognition luncheon. 

Resolutions: 

To solicit resolutions from the membership; submit resolution considered and recommended by the committee to Executive Council; and present the resolutions endorsed by the Executive Council at the final business meeting for a vote by the membership at the annual conference.

SACSA's Newest

To provide orientation, mentoring, and networking opportunities for those individuals who are experiencing their first involvement with SACSA.

Sponsors & Exhibitors: 

To identify potential sponsors for the SACSA annual conference and to seek businesses and vendors interested in displaying their goods and services and partnering with the Association.

Time & Place:  

To recommend annual conference sites, including the city and hotel, to Executive Council according to the rotation schedule published in the policy manual; to travel to cities and negotiate contracts.

Website:

To develop and maintain a strong web site presence for the Association as well as the development of technology to advance the organization's effectiveness and efficiency.
