(Suggested arrival date of Sunday, June 22, registration price includes Sunday night lodging)
University of Alabama - Huntsville Huntsville, Alabama
About the Institute:
NPI - New Professionals Institute is the preeminent professional development opportunity for new student affairs professionals in the south. Co-sponsored by NASPA Region III and SACSA, NPI is an intensive, interactive week of learning, sharing, networking and professional and personal development. This unique opportunity allows new professionals to draw on their first years of experience to improve their effectiveness and to learn from others. It is a time of professional and personal renewal and assists new professionals in the development of their careers.
NPI requires a commitment by the new professional to work intensively over five days with other new professionals and a team of more-seasoned faculty members. To assure that new professionals' participation in the Institute is fully endorsed by the current senior student affairs officer at his/her institution, registrants must have a letter of support submitted by the senior student affairs officer at the institution. There is a limit of two participants per institution.
Many institutions have used this Institute not only as a training ground for rising stars in the profession, but as a form of recognition for outstanding new professionals on their campus. Participants come from all areas of student affairs: student activities, orientation, career services, residential life, recreation, judicial affairs, admissions, Greek affairs, counseling, international services, and more!
Perspectives from past NPI participants:
"NPI allows you the opportunity to revisit the reasons individuals decide to join this field while giving you the tools to remain for the long haul." Travis Gabriel, University of Central Florida
"NPI should be deemed as necessary as a graduate degree for a new professional. If you have questions, you'll find answers. If you are weary and worn out, your batteries will be rejoiced like never before. If you seek directions, you'll find your roadmap." Ullin Rigby, Virginia Union University
"I'm convinced NPI is one of the best things I could have done for my professional development. It gave me the opportunity to step outside my box and really discover how to become a successful new professional, and if you approach it with an open mind, there's no limit to shat your will gain as a new professional. I can't think of another opportunity to really speak with VP's on their experiences in a candid and open setting and it was so insightful. " Faith Stiffler, Tarleton State University
"NPI... in a word, amazing. This week-long institute gave me an outlet for my current frustrations and insight on obtaining my future aspirations. When you add in the relationships we developed creating a new professional networ with current and future leaders in our field and in the invaluable honesty, understanding, and education provided by the faculty and participants, no other word would do this experience justice." Angel Cassandra Nathan, Middle Tennessee State University
"NPI was a hallmark experience for me as a new
professional. The opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the
field added to my growth as a professional. The relationships that were created
during my NPI experience with faculty and other new professionals have already
proven to be supportive and rewarding.” Dametraus Jaggers, University of Tennessee, Knoxville
