PIPE - Practicum and Internship Placement Exchange
Share |

What is PIPE?

STUDENTS: The Practicum and Internship Placement Exchange is an opportunity for graduate students attending institutions within the SACSA region to obtain a more diverse Student Affairs experience.

INSTITUTION: It is an opportunity for practitioners to obtain valuable interns interested in expanding their Student Affairs skills. Interested students work out the details of their internships including credit hour approval and scheduling.

How does PIPE work?

Interested institutions should complete the Submit an Opening form on the  SACSA Career Center Page and Select "Internship” as the category. On this form please be detailed with information about the practicum or internship opportunity offered.  Interested students should submit resumes to the contact person listed for the internships of interest. The institutions will extend an offer to their selected intern(s) directly.

What does a typical student do during a PIPE internship?

It could be anything agreed to by both parties: goal setting, program facilitation and assessment, supervision meetings, etc. Any area of Student Affairs can be a great place for an internship: Orientation, Greek Life, Student Leadership, Activities, Residence Life, Community Service, etc. In determining which positions you are interested in learning more about, consider a functional area, geographic area or type of institution with which you are unfamiliar.

What should a supervisor do for PIPE interns?

Provide supervision and mentoring such as periodic feedback, orienting students to campus layout and function areas, providing opportunities for student interaction, providing professional development, and assisting students in meeting other Student Affairs professionals. Things to consider: housing/housing supplies (linens, etc.), meal plan, University email, parking decal, deadlines, hours per week, expectations, policies to consider, post office box, office space, computer access, workout access, orientation sessions, phone access, sporting event access, University ID card, library access, support services.
