SACSA Members,

As you know, we will be celebrating our Association’s 65th Anniversary in Louisville, KY at the November 1-3, 2014 Fall Conference. The theme for this conference is "Achieving the Triple Crown: Inclusiveness, Professionalism, and Collegiality.” Each of these "crowns” is a SACSA core value, and this year’s theme inspires us to stay the course of the race before us and finish well. In celebration of this 65-year milestone, the SACSA Foundation is pleased to announce the "Drive to 65K” Campaign.

Funds raised through the Foundation are intended to help the Association strengthen our core values and fund educational initiatives now and in the future. Additionally, donations enable the Association to celebrate achievement through awards and recognition; support research and professional development; and honor our history. Our Association has never embarked on a fundraising goal of this magnitude before, and we need YOU to help make it happen. While we will have our usual Foundation table set up at the Louisville Conference, we are asking you to consider making a donation prior to the conference in order to give us a running start towards this ambitious goal. Remember that all donations are tax deductible since the SACSA Foundation is a 50l c (3) non-profit organization.

Visit our donations page, http://www.sacsa.org/donations/, to become a part of making SACSA history today! We invite gifts of any amount but particularly those in increments of $65 and $165 to begin this journey. As you plan your donation, please contact others in SACSA and challenge them to step up and do likewise.

Thanks so much for your continued support of SACSA. We hope to see you in Louisville!

Sincerely,

Joelle Davis Carter, Ph.D.

SACSA Resolutions https://www.sacsa.org/news/212706/ https://www.sacsa.org/news/212706/ Resolutions, What's the big deal?

If you attended the 2014 Conference, you heard me reading several different resolutions for membership approval.  There were several newer members who asked me about the significance and role of SACSA Resolutions for our membership.

Let's start with a definition. We may think we know what it means, but we'll go to the source. Merriam-Webster (www.m-w.com) provides the following definition related to our organization;

res·o·lu·tion

noun \ˌre-zə-ˈlü-shən\

: the act of finding an answer or solution to a conflict, problem, etc. : the act of resolving something

: an answer or solution to something

Now, if you remember all the different resolutions read, they probably sounded more like celebrations of members instead of resolving a conflict, right?  Well, they were! As I’m sure you could tell being involved with SACSA means we LOVE celebrating our members.  The connections and relationships we make through our work on behalf of SACSA is unique. Resolutions are a way of identifying what the challenge was, and acknowledging the people and the work they did to rise to that challenge.

For SACSA, I would add the following as an additional definition;

: the act of identifying the challenge and celebrating the people that rose to that challenge
